Selling tickets for your MoveSocial event with Stripe
These steps take about 15 minutes the first time, and a few minutes for every event after that.
Before you start
You need a free Stripe account
If you don’t have one, go to stripe.com and click Start now. Stripe will ask for your business details and a bank account for payouts. You can be a sole proprietor using your own name. Stripe reviews new accounts, which is usually instant but can take a day, so set this up before the day you want to post your event.
Stripe charges a processing fee on each sale, currently 2.9% plus 30¢ in the US.
- 1
Create one payment link per ticket type
In Stripe, go to Payment Links and click New. Add a product for the ticket with its name and price, for example “Wellness Social — General entry, $18”. Turn on “Let customers adjust quantity” so someone can buy for a friend.
Make one link for each ticket type you’ll offer. Two tiers means two links.
- 2
Limit the spots if you have a cap
If your event can only take a certain number of people, open the link’s advanced options and turn on “Limit the number of payments”. Enter your cap. Stripe stops selling when it’s reached. Enter the same number on the ticket in MoveSocial so people see how many spots there are.
- 3
Send buyers to your own thank-you page
Every MoveSocial event gets a thank-you page made for the group. After paying, buyers see your event and an invite to join your group on MoveSocial, so they hear about your next event instead of a plain “payment received” screen.
On the link’s “After payment” tab, choose “Don’t show confirmation page” and paste the below thank-you url into the redirect field so Stripe sends people that buy a ticket to this page.
Use the same link below on every Stripe payment link for the event. Paste it into your browser to see what buyers will see.

Turn on email receipts
In Stripe, go to Settings, then Customer emails, and turn on emails for successful payments. The receipt is the buyer’s ticket. If you check people in at the door, add a line about that under your public business details so it appears on the receipt.

Add the links to your event in MoveSocial
Create your event in the app, choose Paid, and paste each payment link into the matching ticket. That’s where the Buy button sends people. Set your refund and cancellation policies there too; buyers see them before they pay.
Refunds
Refunds happen in your Stripe dashboard, not in MoveSocial. Stripe keeps its processing fee on a refund, so refunding a $20 ticket costs you about 88¢.
Who bought?
Your Stripe dashboard is the attendee list. The people who RSVP in MoveSocial are the ones who’ve told your group they’re coming; the two lists won’t match exactly, because buying and RSVPing are separate.
Questions
Do I need a business?
No. Stripe accepts individuals; use your own name as the business name.
Can I sell tickets to an online event?
Ticketed online events are not available at the moment but we might put this on the roadmap if we see there is a demand for it. Let us know if you’d like to do ticketed online events! contact@movesocialapp.com
